The beating heart of country life
The hustle and bustle of modern life all too often leads us to neglect the beauty of nature and more traditional ways of living.
Here in the heart of the South Downs, it is not only the beautiful scenery that draws visitors from near and far, but also the opportunities to learn from the natural world all around us.
There is a whole host of nature-inspired events and activities to enjoy during a stay at Woodlands Retreat this year - these are just a few of our highlights…

The Weald & Downland Living Museum plays host to a range of Historic Life Weekends this year, aimed at shining the spotlight on different aspects of rural life from the museum’s collection.
Among these themed weekends are Wildflowers (6-7 June), Herbal Heritage (20-21 June) and Fire & Light (7-8 November).
The popular Historic Life Weekends provide an opportunity to speak to experts, see demonstrations and displays and also explore the living museum itself - offering a relaxing day out with a difference.
Later in the year, the museum hosts its Autumn & Countryside Show - a chance to celebrate the end of harvest and glimpse traditional rural skills in action, such as heavy horses and vintage tractors, along with woodland and rural craft demonstrations, displays and competitions.
